Johan Halvorsen: Passacaglia after Handel FOR TWO VIOLINS SHIVA PERFORMANCE EDITION

About the course

Johan Halvorsen’s Passacaglia after Handel is a thrilling and demanding work filled with virtuosity, dramatic contrasts and intense musical dialogue between two players. This SHIVA Performance Edition is created to support you in studying and performing this challenging work. Rather than presenting the notes alone, the score includes our fingerings, bowings, articulations and musical markings, practical choices that reflect the way we approach the music as violinists. For us, these details are an important part of learning a piece. Fingering and bowing choices can influence not only technical comfort, but also phrasing, articulation, sound and musical direction. By sharing our choices, we want to give you a practical starting point while encouraging you to explore the music and develop your own interpretation. Passacaglia is also a wonderful work for developing chamber music skills. Both players have important musical roles, requiring you to listen, respond, balance, communicate and shape the music together. This edition is especially suited to advanced violinists and can be used for lessons, masterclasses, chamber music study, recitals, competitions and concert performances. Use our fingerings, bowings and markings as guidance, explore what works for you, and discover your own way of bringing the music to life.
